desperately seeking

as the post, below, frankly demonstrates, i am without a digital camera. this has left me an empty shell of a person (well, no, but i really miss it).

so. please, folks, pass on advice on buying a new spangly camera. what's terrible, what's fantastic, and, of course, if anyone you know has a camera that is looking for a good home, send details.

i'm back in town, arrived about 30 hours ago, though my head is still a soup of jet lag. it was hard to leave.

soho requiem

dear friends,

lost in london:

1. one chinese coin purse with my bank card, £13, and nine stamps
2. one mobile phone, graciously leant by pete (housemate of nadine)
3. one very dear sony cybershot 4.1 megapixel digital camera, last seen in soho

shit. these are the things that london will have from me, along with my reputation as a person who does not lose things.

the first two items, i should qualify, were not my fault. i don't know when or how they walked out of my purse. the third was, quite clearly, my fault, or the fault of a certain briton who kept delivering double gin and tonics into my protesting hand.

either way, the indelible images of london will have to remain descriptions for now.

1. the sun suddenly coming out as i stepped into trafalgar sqare, breeze blowing mist onto the throngs sitting on the lip of the fountains, on the stairs. people helping one another on and off the giant lions that guard the square, that look south to big ben, north to the british gallery

2. nadine rolling a cigarette in the shadow of the tower of london, breeze off the thames.

3. the cemetery in stoke newington, victorian and overcome with ivies and blackberry shrubs and moss. the tree creaked and we looked behind us on the path and we jumped to see a cyclist, who laughed with us.

having a great time, wish you were here.
